Basic Overview & Internal Structure


This product is the Firestone QN-390-310 double convolution bellows-type air spring (air bag), a core supporting component specially designed for bus chassis air suspension systems.Its overall structure is divided into four core layers from outside to inside:

  1. Outer rubber protective layer: Made of high-strength wear-resistant composite natural rubber. It is resistant to ozone corrosion, ultraviolet aging, mud splashing and sharp object abrasion during vehicle driving; the side wall is embossed with the official Firestone brand logo, and surface rubber burrs are standard marks of the vulcanization molding process.
  2. Reinforced cord fabric layer: Multiple layers of high-tensile polyester cord fabric are embedded inside the rubber layer. This framework greatly improves the tensile strength of the air bag, preventing bulging deformation and rupture under long-term air pressure load.
  3. Inner air-sealing rubber layer: High-density airtight rubber film, which locks compressed air inside the closed air chamber steadily and ensures low natural air leakage in long-term operation.
  4. End connecting fixing rings: Metal embedded structures at the top and bottom openings of the air bag, which are used for locking connection with the upper vehicle frame support base and lower axle mounting bracket.
  5. The folded bellows curved design allows the air bag to stretch, compress and flex freely within the rated stroke when filled with compressed air.

Standard Installation Steps


Preparation before installation


  1. Lift the whole bus steadily with a professional lifting machine, fully unload the pressure on the target air spring; cut off the vehicle air supply system and release residual compressed air inside the old air bag completely.
  2. Prepare matching bolts, sealing gaskets, torque wrench and new air spring; check the new air bag for cracks, air leakage damage or structural deformation before installation.
Step 1 Disassemble the old air bag
Remove the fixing bolts connecting the top of the air bag to the frame base and the bottom to the axle bracket one by one, take down the aged air spring carefully, clean dirt, rust and sediment on the upper and lower mounting bases thoroughly.

Step 2 Position the new air spring
Place the Firestone QN-390-310 air bag vertically between the upper frame support seat and lower axle mounting support; align the positioning holes at both ends of the air bag with the mounting holes of the vehicle brackets accurately.

Step 3 Lock and fasten fittings
Install special fixing bolts and anti-loose gaskets in sequence; tighten bolts with a torque wrench according to the factory specified torque value to prevent loose air leakage caused by insufficient fastening or thread slipping from over-tightening.

Step 4 Air circuit connection & inflation test
Reconnect the air pipeline to the air bag air inlet port; turn on the vehicle air supply system slowly to inflate the air bag to the standard working pressure specified by the bus manufacturer. Check the joint positions of pipelines and fixing ends for air leakage with soapy water.

Step 5 Debugging & acceptance
Lower the bus slowly to let the chassis bear load naturally; start the vehicle’s height adjustment system to test automatic inflation and deflation functions; drive the vehicle for a short trial run to confirm no abnormal air leakage, abnormal noise or unstable height deviation.
